A Bridge Over Troubled Waters

The political waters have become polluted in America. We must build a bridge to connect the current generation to the concepts that formed this great nation over 200 years ago.
In 1796, George Washington warned Americans of the baneful effects of political parties and expressed great concern that the future growth of party power could destroy the nascent country he helped to create and loved so much. In November 2002, The American Idea Factory launched an ambitious project, designed to restore the voice of the people to our national politics. The Fidelity Pledge states that our elected representatives must be faithful to America before they are faithful to their political party. The Fidelity Political Movement, a roadmap to liberty, was formed to fully restore and protect the ideal of government rule by the consent of the governed. The Fidelity Political Movement is guided by one exceedingly simple, atomic powered concept. It is dedicated to the principle that all United States Senators and United States Representatives must demonstrate loyalty to the United States of America. They must be faithful to America before they are faithful to their political party.
It's all about power! The current party structure creates an environment where the politicians pledge allegiance to a party and the party gives the politicians the power they so desperately desire. The political waters have become polluted in America. We must build a bridge to connect the current generation to the concepts that formed this great nation over 200 years ago.
Hundreds of millions of dollars are contributed to the two major parties each election cycle. It would be naïve to think nothing was received in return for this largesse. Even the politicians themselves are caught in the vortex of a failed party structure and inundated by the flood of money from all manner of special interests. Only we, the people, can solve this problem.
The first step is to purify the political waters. When a doctor continues to treat only the symptoms and not the underlying cause, the malady persists. If the cause is poisoned water, the only effective treatment is to purify the water. The American Idea Factory contends that the root cause of our political sickness is the rapidly growing influence of vast sums of money that virtually control our elections and create within our political parties an artificial and extra-constitutional power. How can one ever expect meaningful campaign finance reform from our current system when doing so would destroy the very source of its power?
The Fidelity Political Movement is not a political party in the conventional sense. It is a movement about procedure and not about policy. We believe our Senators and Representatives should always represent the interest of the people of the United States and never represent the interest of their party. They must be faithful to America. We, the people of America, must insist that this be so.
"The very essence of a free government consists in considering offices as public trusts, bestowed for the good of the country, and not for the benefit of an individual or a party." -- John C. Calhoun
